The Willow Womb
Step inside a sanctuary inspired by the resilience and healing symbolism of willow trees.
This soft, womb-like refuge offers a gentle pause and a place to breathe, rest, reflect, and honor grief.
This project was born from a desire to normalize grief as part of life, held in community rather than something we pull away from our lives to attend to.
Burns and festivals are full of joy, connection, and intensity, but they can also surface deep emotions.
The Willow Womb provides a designated space for that tenderness, extending the tradition of temple spaces to events beyond the Burning Man world that may not have a designated temple.
Stepping inside, participants enter a warm, womb-like space featuring:
A large custom-painted and printed willow tapestry as the focal backdrop
Soft drapery and hanging willow leaf garlands
Floor cushions, area rugs, and low tables
Warm LED lanterns and fairy lights creating ambient glow
An altar space with stones, candles, and sacred objects
Calming scents (cedar, willow, lavender) and gentle ambient sound
